All About You
1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!. I love the mountains. I have lived near and/or driven through the Appalachians numerous times. I like houses that look like they belong in their setting, not so far as log cabin per se, but wood framing is fantastic. I would prefer to be some place more secluded as I am an introvert. As silly as it sounds I don’t want it to be in the hub or city, but I do want to be close to that. I like to go visit down town but I prefer to be out where I can wander around and play in nature. My parents have 30 acres in the country and it’s fantastic. Just going down to the pond and letting the dogs run around and knowing if anyone stops by that they are a neighbor. I haven’t really thought much more about what house I would like to live in. I just want a big bedroom. I bought my own bed set recently and it’s freaking fantastic, I just want it to fit in my room with space to move. Oh, and lots of closet space. Don’t judge me. I also like a change in temperature, the cold in the winter/hot in the summer type. I’m not overly fond of snow, but I don’t mind cold at all.
2. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can. Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!
- First I would wish to repair the relationship with my parents. My temper/anger/fear with them seems to manifest into me not talking to them. Of course at that point, it becomes very hard to pick up a relationship later. I really want to call or email and talk, but it’s just really not that easy.
- I would wish for a PA. No seriously, I need someone to pay my bills (I have the money, I just never put the checks in the mail). Someone to walk my dog when I’ve been at work for 12 hours in a row. Oh gosh, and someone to help me with my laundry. It is always out of control.
- Lastly I would wish for a local friend. I moved for work, so the only people I know are ones I work with. I need someone to go out and be social with, someone that I can whine about work to, and to blow steam with. Hell, if it’s someone I were to date/have a relationship with/marry even better. I really just need to get out of my house more and I’m rubbish at making new friends.
3. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;) OK I think I can narrow this down to two. One is graduating college. I went for two years then dropped out. When I went back I was really proud of the fact that I made the decision myself and was paying for it myself as well. I went back because I wanted to and even though many of my peers said I would never make it, I did. My second would be having a job right out of school. With the world being what it is right now I’m very grateful to know that I had a good job once I finished school. On top of that I’m making more than some of my HS friends who graduated years earlier than I did. I’m not saying it’s the best job ever, but I like work… well not right now. Retail around Thanksgiving/Christmas sucks.
4. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice.
Love Love powers all things. It doesn’t have to be that you love a significant other, or desire love from another person. For example, I love my dog. On days when I am depressed and all I want to do is sleep all day, I have that face looking at me needing fed, walked, let outside, and she motivates me to do more and be a better person. I love to read. I love to be involved with fandoms. I guess that I just I find a lot of passion and motivation in love, though many times I don’t show it well.
Knowledge One part of this is simply knowledge is power. I think Varys shows this rather well. I’m not sure I LIKE him, but I’m so interested that I want to know more about him… knowledge of him/his character. Knowledge can also get you judged like crazy. Someone made a comment about crows (there are a ton in our parking lot in the early morning) and I went off about how they were called a murder and how they fit into Celtic mythology (I have an Irish heritage so have read about druids etc) then talked about how different they are from Ravens and how ravens were important to England and kept in the castles. Then I got the ‘OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE’ look from my peers as I rambled.
Friendship Friends are that level set. They keep you grounded when you feel all alone. They will share your hopes and fears, let you vent, they can be a corner stone to sanity. Well for me at least.
Pleasure I like the finer things in life. Sue me. No but seriously, if you can’t find happiness and pleasure in life, what else is there? Plus I value the fact that I and others can find pleasure in little things. I remember one day I just sat outside and watched leaves fall, it was amazing.
Adventure I can find/create adventure in my every day, I don’t need it extra! I think of going to Italy (on my wish list) and I filter that under pleasure, not adventure. Besides, I just can’t see myself as Indiana Jones… but oh do I wish I could! Plus isn’t friendship an adventure as well? Can’t we read and live the adventures of the characters? Is there not adventure finding yourself?
Money I understand that money can help you buy things, and sometimes money can buy pleasure if you will. I need it to live, I get that, but I’m rather introverted so I am just as happy to sit at home with the interwebs as I am to go shopping or out to eat. Ok that’s a lie… I live by myself and keep odd hours. I eat out/drive through A LOT.
Family I value my family. I love them. I am distant. I am detached. I am more “me me me” than anything else and it gets me in trouble. I always think I can do it myself, but I can’t. I love my family… I just can’t figure out how to get back to them.
5. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain. Acts of love takes place beyond good and evil. I think that’s very true, there is so much more to this life than to nitpick about why something takes place. You should just enjoy what life has to offer. Love is something that everyone is looking for or desiring of, even if they don’t admit it. It is that eternal drive that puts so many other of our actions in motion.
6. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can. Poorly. I don’t do anything for quite some time then twice a year I go on a total binge and spend two paychecks worth in a day. I’m mostly responsible. I seem to always have money, again it’s the getting it the people who need it that is the problem. I do have a savings account now, so I’m trying to be more mindful of my spending so I can buy the bigger ticket items that I want… like a big screen TV and a Wii and at some point a new car.
7. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office? I love to read. I’ll read an entire book in a day if I can. Nothing like the ability to be transported to another world and forget your own, even if it’s only for a few hours. I like to write, though I seem to only be able to wrangle fanfiction. I also really enjoy spending time with my peers at work, they’re lots of fun. And, perhaps most importantly, I like to do things with my dog. She was a stray I adopted and I’m still very proud that I was able to save her, so I enjoy spoiling her among other things.
8. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.
- Sharks. Irrational fear, I know. My dad let me watch Jaws when I was seven and I had a nightmare about sharks swimming around my room and have been terrified ever since. It’s something about the eyes, I think. How they are just so black and you can’t ever tell where they are really looking. I now have goosebumps. Moving on.
- Not being successful at work/getting fired. Yes I put them together. I constantly fear I’m not good enough. I wasn’t good enough to get through school the first time. I wasn’t good enough to please my parents. I’m never good enough to be the girl who is liked. I’m not good enough to run my team well. I won’t be good enough to move to a new position then promote. I get stuck in that and then even if I am good enough, if everyone is in my corner, if all I need to do is walk the path, I stumble and am not good enough. Fear of failure might be more appropriate.
- Being homeless. There are a lot of things I can combat. I mean, hell, turn off my water and I can still buy gallons and do everything that needs to be done. I hate to impose on others and live by other’s rules. Not only that but it is such a status symbol to have a home and it tells a lot about a person. Beyond that it also to me means a lack of success and that I most likely wouldn’t be able to have Ginger-dog with me and that she would have to back to a shelter which is just inconceivable to me.
9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question.
- Lazy. I don’t get things done in a timely manner. I’ll let things slide so I can do something fun instead of something responsible. I have watched my life crash and burn in the past due to this. I’m working on it, but it’s slow SLOW progress.
- Inconsiderate. One of my coworkers jokes that she has no heart and I always say I have no soul. I make fun of inappropriate things. I say what I think without sugar coating. Sometimes it’s a defense mechanism and sometimes I just don’t realize I’m going to offend people. Oh and most times I don’t feel bad about it either.
- Disorganized. OH my life is a mess. I have things in piles here and there an on that chair I have never sat on yet. I can’t find most things if I need them. My office at the store is a disaster too. Thankfully my peer that I share it with is pretty much just as bad. It is understood that my office is not a place to interview. However if you’d like to look at something with pirates or the Lion King it is a very good place to go.
+ Resilient and adaptable, yes they are one thing. I am able to roll with the punches. No matter what you put in front of me I change my plan as necessary to do what I need to do. I try not to let things get me down and am willing to approach things from many angles. I also seek out new situations and try to learn from them.
+ I love to teach. I can change how I teach to accommodate how the learner does best. I am able to realize when I need to be patient and when I need to be stern. I love to take people from good to great and from great to amazing. I love developing people at work to prep them for promotion.
+ I’m calm under (most) stressful situations. Meeting the soccer player I’m head over heels for? No big deal. A guest calls freaking out about something. It’s ok, I got this. The media calls the store, badgering me and asking 183409238409238430298 questions… fine. My answer remains the same and I remain calm and mellow, thanks so much. That’s not to say I don’t freak out, just not in situations I see others freaking out in.
A Song of Ice and Fire Related
1.How many books from the series have you completed? I read them all! I started in the beginning of the summer and just finished ADWD a few weeks back.
2.Who are your favorite three characters in the series? Why?
- Jon Snow. At first I liked him just because I’ve been an outsider and I know how much that sucks. How you always want to belong but don’t necessarily. Then as Jon grew up and his life took him to other places I identified with him even more. He wanted so badly to go to the Wall and when he was there he was so disappointed about it, which reminds me of my original trip to college. When I really ‘fell’ for Jon though, was when he was promoted to Commander. I remember being promoted in a job and then not really being able to be friends with the same people. That internal battle where he has to figure out what to do, when he makes decisions based on what is right for him, what is right for the Watch, and what is right for the Kingdom. I’ve really enjoyed watching him grow up and evolve. He has grown to one of the characters whose chapters I eagerly look for.
- Arya. I love that she is such a free spirit. Granted I’m an only child, but when all the other girls were playing with dolls I was out rolling in the dirt. I always played with boys. I go after things I want but at the same time, sometimes I get lost along the way. It would also break my heart to think of losing my pet, but I understand why she did it. Double because before I adopted my dog she did bite someone, so it is a concern I have to think about. I appreciate her perseverance and it’s something I wish I had more of. She also has a knack of surviving no matter what the circumstances and her trip is truly an amazing one.
- Tyrion. Tyrion has his own nobility to him. He isn’t what you expect physically or personality. He has a soft spot for anyone that isn’t treated fairly (other dwarfs and bastard children). He maintains his own sense of justice but has a clear drive. He’s smart, creative, ingenuitive, and giving. Yes, I think Tyrion is giving. He makes decisions based on what he feels is the best outcome even it is unpopular. I suppose he’s pretty used to that, though. I can also appreciate the animosity towards his family.
3.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series? Why?
- Lysa. She needs to get a freaking clue. Petyr pays attention to her sure, but for his own gains. She makes tons of foolish choices just because she feels like. She’s more or less ruined her son and even with Petyr she might have ruined the Vale and House of Arryn. She just doesn’t get it. She makes accusations left and right with no founding again, just because it suits her. I just want to scream and yell at her and smack some sense into her. UG!
- Cersei. Not only does she try to sell herself to get everything, which super bothers me, but she’s pretty much ruining her kids along the way as well. OK so mostly Joff, but some of Tommen as well.
-Stannis. He’s just so unyielding! I respect his devotion to his desires but he’s so headstrong he endangers all his followers. Getting caught in that storm? Crazy! His refusing to see the benefit of Wildlings on the Wall/on their side. Come on, man! If you really want to be King, you’re going to need to make some better life choices! That’s it, seriously. So rigid.
4.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far? Why? Birth of dragons, plain and simple. There were tons of things that sparked my interest and piqued my curiosity. I guess that was the first truly mystical thing in the books. I just think of all the mystical things that I wish was real and in that moment it became real in that world. I feel like that set a foundation of ‘things can change in an instant’ and ‘you never know what can happen’ which is very true of life!
5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why? This is going to sound silly, but I haven’t thought much on it! I want Daenerys to unite Westeros with the dragons… and Aegon. I also wanted her to be with Quentyn Martell.

I definitely see where the Lannister votes are coming from, but count me in the minority Greyjoy vote. Yes, despite the sharks.

But I'm going to go with the Greyjoy minority -- the main feel I got from you was sort of a chaotic one: the clutter of your desk, the need for a personal assistant to take care of your bills, you can change your plans as necessary, etc., and chaos is a feel I associate strongly with Greyjoy. Resilient/adaptable as a trait also makes me think Greyjoy immediately, and I think they too have a kind of conflicted relationship with their family. Your ideal home away from the city and your love of simple pleasures also makes me think Greyjoy a bit, so Greyjoy it is.

Very clear-cut applications this week :) Self-aware people are a joy to sort.
