All About You

1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.

I don't want too big a house because it's too much cleaning. My homes have been mostly small and now I need to spread out, but still not too big. I'd like a yard, and if that's not possible just to be in an area where there's grass and trees around, maybe parks, as long as it's not all pavement. I'm big on nice clean bathrooms with good plumbing (never underestimate the power of a perfect showerhead), and I want a house that gets good natural lighting. Energy efficient windows, hardwood floors, and a big library would be swell. Oh, and a breakfast nook, I looooove breakfast.

I love having all four seasons, it gives you something new to look forward to. Autumn is my favorite, all 5 days of it that we get lately. Too much heat knocks me out and too much winter makes me a little gloomy, though by now I have a 5 month winter tolerance which is something. I want to be near a city because I like visiting them often, but I wouldn't want to live right in the heart of downtown since the traffic would drive me nuts. Uptown or in an outlying suburb would be great. I moved to a tiny town in a rural area for a while and didn't manage the isolation well.

My happiest time was living north of Chicago right on the lake.

2. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.

Failure: I don't like having people be disappointed in me or not meeting expectations. But it's good motivation too.

Marionettes and mannequins: I won't run from the room or anything, but they cause me great unease. Especially clown dolls, way to freak me out. I'm not fond of real clowns either but at least they can make balloon animals.

Losing control: I hate not being in control of myself, even when alone. I refrain from controlling others so that I can define my own boundaries and what's mine to control. Which is supposed to work in theory. Sometimes it's hard to relax.

3. What is your favorite aspect of your physical appearance and why?

My hair, it's thick and long and wavy. It's a hassle when its humid out and I always have to get it cut a certain way so it doesn't poof too hugely, but it gets compliments sometimes.

4. If you could change one thing about your physical appearance, what would you change and why?

I'd be taller. Then I could ride all the rides at 6 Flags ;)

5. Imagine you’re given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!

First wish: Money. My dad is ill and needs to retire, and my mom (after previously mentioned not-so-great move to nondescript rural area) has had financial problems, so I'd settle all their debts and move them to their ideal locations. My mom would be near her sisters on the east coast and dad I'd set up in a nice little place in sunny San Diego where he'd have a bank account big enough to put my sisters through college.

Second wish: An all expenses paid trip around the world for me and my best friend. I have that cliched desire to See The World before I *gulp* grow up for good.

Third wish: More discipline. More school means more discipline. *wimper*
Edit: I'm going to go ahead and elaborate. I haven't been in school for a few years and am totally out of the habit, so I have no work ethic any more at all. I'm not really a disciplined person by nature, just when I have to be. It wouldn't matter to me if there wasn't a necessity, on my own I'm quite happy to be lazy ;)

6. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding. ;)

I guess in junior year of college I took extra classes and got straight A's. Boring, but after a terrible sophomore year it felt amazing. And then my work for a lab senior year. And then coming back and walking again after a car accident in high school.

7. Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you?

I'm guessing "love" in this sense means romance and not family or friends, and money means a surplus of money and not just enough to get by. Soooo let's say from most to least: Family/Friendship, Knowledge, Adventure, Love, Money, Pleasure

8. What's one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values?

Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies - The Shawshank Redemption

9. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you?

I like sitting down ahead of time and budgeting so I know my limits, if possible. Financial security is important and getting more so in the current economic environment since being on my own is now more of a reality. I don't need tons of money but I like a nice cushion and I save for contingencies. Still, money exists for spending and I don't get jollies from just sitting on it. If there's a need, I'll spend it. My weakness is spending money when with friends - you know, when you're out doing the town and you want the fun to keep rolling. But it's never gotten out of hand.

10. Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?

I like reading, novels and some poetry and the internet. Despite my guitar and piano I'm a hopeless musician but I still enjoy, and certainly I like to listen to it and like finding new artists and genres. I'm not really a movie buff but I like them, and watching them with more knowledgeable friends. I used to go to the gym but I've gotten really lazy lately, which is bad since I consider eating an extra-curricular activity. I have a small number of tv shows I'll follow at a given time. I'm a total klutz and I suck at sports but I love being outdoors, and I follow tennis and local baseball. Often I like just driving to nowhere in particular.

11. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical).

BEST
Curious: More important than finding out who you know more than and who you know less than is just to keep learning more, I think it's been useful for me.
Perseverant: Giving up makes me feel dirty.
Open-minded: I don't like judging people quickly or assuming I know them. First impressions happen but it's important to remember that people are vast.

WORST
Procrastinating: I should really get around to fixing this someday.
Too affected by environment: I wish I could block out my surroundings more.
Proud: Everyone needs some pride but maybe I have too much? I often compromise, but that leads to resentment sometimes if I'm the only one initiating it, so I still count it.

A Song of Ice and Fire Related

1.Which is your favorite book of the series so far? What about your least favorite?
Game is still my favorite, I like the way the plot just unwound. Least favorite is probably Clash but I still loved it, Tyrion pwning all and Littlefinger pwning Tyrion, I think I was still just in mourning over Ned.

2.Who are your favorite three characters in the series?
Catelyn, Jaime, and ... I really don't know. Probably a little trinity of Arya, Sansa, and Brienne in a tie for third. But then there's Ned too. Yeah, I really don't know.

3.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series?
I don't enjoy Dany's and Jon's storylines as much (and Bran's after he leaves Winterfell) but I can't say I hate the characters, I just hope their arcs pick up. I guess I prefer the rest of the stuff to the supernatural so far. I hate Littlefinger but I love hating him, and Cersei too, there's a whole mix of hate and love and and fascination there. So let's go with ... Joffrey, Euron/Victarion, and Darkstar -- don't miss, wouldn't miss, and am first in line to toss off a cliff (what was that I said about not judging too quickly?).

4.#1 Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far?
I hate this question, but I usually go with Jaime's interrogation. Sansa's snow castle was awesome too.

5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end?
I want Winterfell to be rebuilt and in the hands of the Starks, who need to all live (though I doubt it *sadface*). I can't decide if I want the kingdoms to stay together or not, I think it'd be interesting if some stayed together and some didn't. I would like to see the Greyjoys kind of permanently taken out, just because I don't see how such a culture can go on for too long, it's not feasible! I want Brienne to live. I don't see how the dragons could survive either really. I would like some Freys to die. And though I love him in my way, I want Littlefinger to die. Mostly I just want the rules of Martinverse to stay intact and I want the magic incorporated well, I don't want some silly unbelievable ending even if it hurts. And you know it will.

I get a strong sense of House Stark from you, for all that you're not fond of winter. (I'm sure there are Starks born who have winter in their bones but don't like it!) You're very focused on necessity, caring for your family, overcoming obstacles... all great Stark qualities.

I'm still sad to see that there are a couple houses being severely neglected, and I'd like to sort you into one, but you just wouldn't fit. To be honest, you really strike me as Tully. The caring for family, a sense of stoicism throughout the application, and viewing your pride as a negative thing... I just think it fits. I see a bit of Stark as well, I think, but still more of House Tully, so I'm sorting you there. Great application, by the way.

I think you are a Stark. You had very reasonable, responsible answers (budgeting money, needing more discipline, etc) and you had your happiness at a nice, boring doing well junior year. You care for your family's well being as your first wish, you put pleasure last and you want Winterfell back in the hands of the Starks (well, most of us...but you put it first so it's significant.)

Welcome to the community, btw!

(Sorry for posting this several times. It's late and I'm having issues but I'm just too excited to not vote!)

This was surprisingly tough for me, so I started with the obvious no-go Houses - you are not Greyjoy, Targaryen, Martell or Tyrell. (Aside: have we even seen Greyjoy suggested yet? ;) ) The first two are a bit too vicious for you, the latter two too opulent. I struck out Tully right after that, even though you are sincerely devoted to your family - you seem to want more discipline than they usually show.

So that leaves me considering you a very interesting mix of Stark and Lannister. I might sound crazy, but bear with me. :) Your hatred of the Greyjoys and desire to see the Starks rise again certainly point you in that direction. BUT... (you knew it was coming!) You seem here a lot like how Tywin would have wanted to raise a child - ordered, well-rounded, self-aware, successful, practical in your aesthetic sense. You're practical with your money, but it doesn't multiply under you, which is certainly a Lannister detractor, as is the negative view of pride.

Whew! It's nearly a coin flip for me, but I'm going to buck the trend and say off to Lannister with you!

Ah well, you won't probably be a fan of this vote, but I can't help it; I like to be honest when stamping people, and take the whole thing quite seriously. After all, it's like having another bit of definition added to your personality.

Without further ado, it's House Targaryen for you. I'll explain briefly, which I hope you'll excuse, but I'm still on hiatus and I should really work on my thesis instead of commenting here. Yet ASOIAF is too much of an addiction and I do need my treat of distraction every now and then.

So why the Targs? Basically, as much as you're willing to see her arc change, you remind me of Dany, and in a very strong way; you seem to value the things money can not as much as buy, but assure, and I do have the feeling that Dany does appreciate financial security more than being drowned in richness. Also, the fact that you're open-minded, hence open to suggestions *giggles*, that you're a control-freak (join the club!) and that you see perseveration as a gift brought me some Targ features in mind, so I'll stick with this.

I know. The human mind is amazing, and a little twisted just like that. It's exactly the same when we're up to stamp people as the respective characters at the other comm; sometimes there are cases when the same person is voted as five completely opposite characters and we need to figure everything out, lol.

Like [livejournal.com profile] fireriven I got pretty strong House Stark vibes from your application. And similarly, I have to cite caring for family, overcoming obstacles, and your desire for more discipline as my reasons for voting this way.

This was actually a hard decision for me between Tully (your emphasis on family) and Stark (your reasonability). Though you dislike excessive winter, I'm going to go with House Stark too. The main deciding factor was that you seem to show more awareness of discipline than Tully's commonly show, even though your third wish was for more of it. And your fear of failure, while I think it's a trait shared between Tully and Stark, is a stronger note among the Starks between the two.

Okay, yes, House Stark for you. *thumbs up* Couple of quotes spoke particularly well in this direction...

"I refrain from controlling others so that I can define my own boundaries and what's mine to control. Which is supposed to work in theory. Sometimes it's hard to relax." <-- To my mind? That is Stark, like freaking whoa. O_o Keeping to themselves so long as no one fucks with 'em, and they've definitely got difficulty with that relaxation thing. Always aware that something could happen (that winter is coming, and all) and that they must be ready.

"I have that cliched desire to See The World before I *gulp* grow up for good." <-- Also, given the context of the rest-of-application, very Stark. Particularly thinking of Arya here, who's off running here, there, and everywhere, and seems to be benefiting from it in any number of ways. Am still somewhat convinced that she'll find her way back to a solid place at some point, and the last bit of the statement? Definitely Arya-sounding. ;) But yes, seems Stark-appropriate to see the world, get a sense of what's out there, then go back to the boundaries noted above. Thus can understand the outside world, keep from being ignorant of it and all, and know how best to deal with it if it absolutely must be dealt with.

Few other things, lesse... The list of importance seemed decently suited to Stark. Proud and impacted by environment (there're many, maaaany reasons the Starks should be a-stayin' in the North, non?) much? Also, the desire to see the story work out according to the rules already set seems to equat at least somewhat to the very-Stark sense of justice. And... dunno. You've got a not-brash, I'll give you case a chance sense about you that seems to suit the Starks. Maybe a bit standoffish, but not to an extreme, and not in a cutting or calculatedly offensive sort of way. And, again, that sense that you aren't just going to shove others away for being a waste of time. So, yes. There you go.

Family love? Yes. Practical sense? Yes. And that desire to see the world really put me in mind of a younger Blackfish. I was a bit undecided, but I think you'd fit nicely in House Tully.
I thought about that before seeing all the Stark votes, and even now... yeah, I see where they're coming from but I think Starks would be too stuck-up for you.

The emphasis and importance you place on security and happiness for your family shine out above all else when I read this, therefore House Tully seems to be the place for you. You also mention fear of faliure and disappointing others, which implies a strong sense of duty.

Tully

I'm getting a strong Tully vibe here.

Many parts of your application seemed to scream "Family, Duty, Honor." You definately seem to be willing to put personal things aside for family & duty, as evidenced by your first wish:

First wish: Money. My dad is ill and needs to retire, and my mom (after previously mentioned not-so-great move to nondescript rural area) has had financial problems, so I'd settle all their debts and move them to their ideal locations. I did get a Tully vibe off of all the things that screamed loyalty to your family and what you might see as your duty to them. But, overall, I found that it came in as a second strain to the House Stark that I saw. With the exception of your family (and then only maybe) it seems that you are more likely than not to let people do as they will so long as it does not interfere with what you are doing, and if they do interfere then you would take it in stride and do what you must... yeah, the Stark overwhelmed the Tully in my eyes.

To Stark with ye!

you appear to be very independent and not wanting to cause a ruckus unless forced to defend yourself, your family, or of course, your honor. those Starks and their honor...While the importance of your family had me looking towards House Tully, I think your Stark traits are stronger.

There is some Stark, but ultimately I see you as a member of House Tully. I think it was mostly the hope quote that put me over on their side - I don't see a family whose words are "Winter is Coming" as full of hope & positivity. Your first wish also pointed me toward Tully because it was so family-oriented and caring. I think you're more of the Blackfish kind of Tully than anything else, though, with your desire to see the world/have some adventure, and love of learning.

I had a hard time choosing between Starks and Tullys and reading the votes made it all even more confusing :)) But I'll stick with House Tully because you have a sense of duty, need of security, strong liking for clean places and also because you said you were the most happy when leaving by a lake, and your description of your ideal home reminds me of the feeling I got when I read about Riverrun for the first time.
Oh, and the hair thing. Very Tully :P

Everything about your application screamed Tully to me. You seem responsible and determined, but more hopeful and friendly than Stark.

From the moment I read about your wish for money to help your family, I had you pegged as a Tully. I can see where all of the Stark votes come in, but you confessed to a lack of discipline, that oh-so-Stark trait. The quote you gave (gotta love The Shawshank Redemption) also indicated a certain amount of optimism, which I actually think to be something of a Tully trait.
