All About You
1. Describe your ideal house/home. Please go into as much detail as possible, and be sure to include your ideal geographical location in the description!.
My ideal house is something I have a hard time imagining because to me, as long as I feel comfortable, as long as I can read and sleep without trouble, be it a tiny flat or a big house, it's good enough! Still, if I try to project myself in the future, I'd love a house big enough so I can have some "me-space", I need to have my own space where I can be by myself and my family would respect that. A place where I could read and think and work without being disturbed and it would not be a bedroom. Yet, I'd also like to have a big room that would be for the whole family, I often think of having a kitchen/dining room where the family would eat together but also play together boardgames, cardgames, videogames or watch the television together.
When it comes to the architecture of the house, I like tall places, being able to watch the horizon from a window far from the ground.
I also don't want to live in the city, I prefer the countryside or the seasisde. A house with a small garden and a veranda, where you can read and rest on sunny days.
That pretty much sums it up.
2. Imagine you're given the classic opportunity: a genie granting you three wishes. What would you wish for? Please be as elaborate as you can.= Wishing for more wishes is not permitted!
That's a hard question because I always thought that there is something disturbing about the business of granting wishes: what's the point if you don't put any effort in it? Would you derive pleasure from something you didn't gain on your own? Still, when you think about it, the usual possible answers come up: money, love, peace in the worl, better living conditions for children all over world etc... but that's just too clichés!
Ok, so my own three wishes...
Wish 1) Being good at my job, I mean, beaing really good at it! I want to be able to teach better, to explain better, make my classes more interesting, more fun for my pupils, make my students passionate about new things. Make them intrested in more than just their grades, their new boyfriend/girlfriend, the new application on their smartphone... Yes, wish number one would be to be a better teacher!
Wish 2) To never lose contact with my bestfriends! I mean, you grow up, life goes on, you move away, find a job, meet new people and it becomes harder and harder to keep in touch, even with the new techbologies. I don't want that to happen. Sometimes, I wish we could all live in the same neighborhood our whole life! See each other whenever we want to.
Wish 3) To free the genie, just like in Aladdin, because how cool is that? Let's live Disney ;)
3. In your life so far, what accomplishment are you the most proud of? Why? You can list more than one if you have trouble deciding.
_Helping children in difficulty, to be more precise I can think of two students I think I have really helped. Well, they thanked me for being their teacher so I do think I have helped them, if only to understand better their lessons but also to feel more confident in themselves and their abilities when they were seen as "problematic students". As for why I am proud of it, it's because I didn't become a teacher just to say at the end of the hour: "class over, see you next week"; but to try to do something positive with my life. Even if it's a very small thing.
4.Which of the following is most important to you: Love, Money, Knowledge, Family, Friendship, Adventure, or Pleasure? Which is the least important to you? Please explain why for each choice.
Most important: I can't decide between Family and Friendship. To me they are as equally important. Friends are the family you choose after all! To me both my family and my friends are my rocks. When I feel depressed, beaten, when I think nothing can make my day better, they are always here to make me feel better. I don't know what I'do wothout them!
Least important: I don't know, it might sound shocking but right now, I'd say love is the least important to me, as in lover or Boyfriend/girlfriend relationship because love tends to make people very selfish and you forget sometimes what was truly important to you when you are in love or when you think you are... But that may just be "cynical me" talking.
5.What one quote (or passage, song lyric, etc.) that effectively describes you and your values? Explain.
There are two different "passages/lyrics" I can think of that would sum me up: The first one is the song "bring on the rain" from Joe dee Messina. I love the whole song and I totally agree with its message because I know what it is like to go through a hard time, to feel "defeated" and to just clench your teeth and go forward while repeating to youreself that, indeed, "tomorrow is another day".
The second one is a quote from a song by the same singer: "I believe in things unseen, I belive in the message of a dream", these lyrics struck a chord inside me the first time I heard them because I do believe there is more to life than what can be seen with your own eyes.
6. How do you manage your money? On that note, how important is money/financial security to you? Go into as much detail as you can.
I'm a squirrel. I save it. To me, money is important, you need to be careful with it and how you spend it. Nowadays, you need financial security and I think it is foolish to treat money as unimportant. It's not what should count the most in your life, but I think you do need some to be happy and it does make life more comfortable. But not too much money, if being rich might be nice, I do think that being too rich tends to twist your priorities.
7.Name (and elaborate on) some of your hobbies. What are your favorite things to do outside of school/the office?
Hobby number 1: reading: I am a bookworm, I go through books like I go through chocolate. I am completely addicted, I need to read like I need to breathe.
Hobby number 2: Spending time with my family or my bestfriends. I need them in my life.
Hobby number 3: watching tv-shows, anime, dramas... That always makes me feel more relaxed.
Hobby number 4: walking and hiking. Best way to sort my thoughts and feelings. Best way to clear my mind. Best way to breathe some fresh air.
Hobby number 5: travelling, just love it: pack a bag, pick a destination and see and discover as much as I can.
Hobby number 6: writing, but I'm just starting. I'm still stumbling along and fumbling with it.
8. Name three things you are afraid of. Explain.
1) Zombies: don't ask me why but they really creep me out!! I mean don't make me watch "The walking dead" or "resident evil", I won't be able to sleep for a whole week! They are the only "monsters" that truly make me afraid, I have no problems with other creatures from horror movies, but zombies... "shudder".
2) Being a bad teacher. Nothing is more stressful, nothing gives me bad nerves as much as being in front of a class I can't gel along with, I can't communicate with.
3) Being burnt alive, I just think that would be a very painful and very horrible death.
9. Name (and elaborate on) your top three BEST and top three WORST qualities (personality-related, not physical). Please answer as fully as you can, as this is an important question.
Best qualities:
_I am a good listener: people confide themselves easily to me and I always keep their confidence to myself. My friends know they can count on me to listen to their troubles and not be judgemental.
_I am creative/imaginative: I have a very fruitful imagination, and I am a good story-teller. I know how to weave a tale to make people forget their problems, to entertain them or just myself.
_I am kind: I am always there to help or to listen and I don't mind giving a bit of myself to make people's lives a bit easier.
Worst qualities:
_I am TOO kind: sometimes I think I should just roll over and let people walk all over me litterally because I already let them do it metaphorically speaking. I need to learn to assert myself more in certain situations and stop feeling guilty if I can't drop everything the moment someone needs my help.
_I am sometimes asocial: eventhough friends and family are important to me, I do need my own space, and my "me-times" and I can turn into a monster if I don't get them, and then I just feel guilty, and then I just accept to do things I wouldn't otherwise because I feel guilty and then I just feel like a carpet with a "walk over me" sign... hence, the "too kind" sometimes or maybe I should just say "damn my conscience".
_Lack of resolution: I need to be more determinded whan it comes to getting the things that I want. I need to be more resolute about my path in life. Sometimes I really do feel I lack determination and strength of character. That's something I'd like to change about myself.
A Song of Ice and Fire Related
1.How many books from the series have you completed?
All of them, though I had a harder time with the last ones. I did go a bit fast through some passages.
2.Who are your favorite three characters in the series?
1) Arya Stark. I adore her! She is a very strong character and I always did love tomboys better. She goes against the social norm of her time, she goes through a lot and does not lose sight of who she is, even when she decides to become Cat and join the Faceless men, the only thing she does not get rid of is "needle". I think it represents the way she always decides to make her own rules to attain her objective. She is my favorite character in the whole series.
2) Tyrion Lannister. I love the dwarf. He is a fascinating character. He is very sharp and clever, one of the most clever character in the novel. I loved how he fulfilled his role as the hand of the king. He is the only one who truly believes in the threat coming from beyond the wall (among the characters living in the South).
3) Hard to decide who to put in third place, but I also have a soft spot for Brienne, the maid of Tarth. Again, she is an unconventionnal character and I love those! I love the idea of a lady knight, love how principled she is, much more than all the "male" knights, love how her oath always drives her and love her interractions with Jaime Lannister.
3.Who are your least favorite three characters in the series?
1)Stansa Stark: even though she has her moments, she mostly annoys me. When is she going to grow up and stop her snivelling? When will she stop being so naive and so easily manipulated. "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". Well, shame on her! She is always bieng fooled. Callling her wolf "Lady", seriously? I think it says a lot that her wolf was the first one to die, she is not a real Stark when it comes to her temperament.
2)Theon Greyjoy. He is stupid and weak. Need I say more? I understand that he was caught between a rock and a hard place, but still, he let his pride and his dick do the choices for him. If he has a brain, he forgot to use it for most of the series... Although I do feel bad for what happens to him after he is taken prisoner.
3)Joffrey Baratheon. He had Ned Stark killed, isn't that enough? He is also stupid, a bully, and weak. And his death is not harsh enough although it is kind of poetic, poison being a "womanly weapon". That's one I would have loved Arya killing much later in the series.
4. Favorite moment in all of ASOIAF so far?
The birth of the dragons. It is a very poetical and powerful scene. Very emotionnal. Daenerys has lost everything: her husband, her baby. She is sad, angry, she wants revenge, she is suicidal and when she goes on the funeral pyre, you don't know what to expect but in the end there is joy: she becomes the mother of dragons. Furthermore, the birth of the dragons gave meaning to the title of the series: we had the ice with the wildwalkers in the North, we now have the fire with the dragons in the South.
5. In your dream-world, how would you like to see the series end, and why?
It is difficult to say: I'd like a "happy end" as much as possible but I don't think it would be cannon-like. Anyway, it's just a dream so: the few things I am sure about, I want Daenerys to take back the Iron throne after having fought and won the war against the wildwalkers, I want Arya to become the hand of the queen, I want Gendry to be acknowleged as lord Baratheon, Winterfell rebuilt by Bran as Lord stark, Cersai dead, Jaime and Brienne together in Tarth. Tyrion as the lord of Castelry rock and a happy ending for Jon Snow.
